We Are So Honored!
The National Council of Teachers of English hold their annual conference in Minneapolis, MN from November 19-22. If you’re there, say hello to Gilbert Ford, illustrator of Mr. Ferris and His Wheel. He'll be accepting the Orbis Pictus Honor at the Awards luncheon. I can’t be there but I’ll be celebrating nonetheless!

Each One Read One / High Rollers Event, Clark County, Nevada
Check out this cool YouTube video from the PR event promoting Mr. Ferris and His Wheel as the “Each One Read One” choice at High Roller on October 16-17, 2015, in Las Vegas! The organizers and the kids were awe-inspiring!
What's it like to read from a book you wrote, Mr. Ferris and His Wheel, while you're riding on the tallest Ferris wheel in the world, the High Roller at Caesar's Palace in Las Vegas? It's an unforgettable experience! (Photo: Clark County School District)
  An Amazon Bestseller!
Such fun to find Mr. Ferris and His Wheel is on Amazon.com's Top 10 List for Children’s How Things Work Books and also on their Top 10 List for Children’s Physics Books. People searching for books in those categories have named Mr. Ferris a favorite.

  Louisiana Young Readers' Choice Awards
Louisiana Young Readers' Choice AwardGilbert Ford and I were delighted to learn that children in grades 3 through 5 will be reading Mr. Ferris and His Wheel during 2016 in consideration for voting on their favorite among 15 books for their age group.

The 2017 Louisiana Young Readers' Choice list also includes other nonfiction picture books such as Little Melba and Her Big Trombone by Katherine Rusell-Brown and Frank Morrison, The Noisy Paint Box by Barb Rosenstock and Mary GrandPré, and Shooting at the Stars by John Hendrix. Enjoy your reading, kids!

  Beehive Award Nomination 2015/16
Beehive AwardThe Children’s Literature Association of Utah divides their nominations into five categories, including Informational Books. So pleased that Mr. Ferris and His Wheel will be among the reading choices for Utah students, along with Separate is Never Equal by Duncan Tonatiuh and How Big Were Dinosaurs? by Lita Judge and several more. I'm adding to my own reading list!
Rhode Island Children’s Book Awards 2016
In Rhode Island, the nomination list includes 20 books. The students are asked to read at least three book from the list in order to be eligible to vote. I hope Mr. Ferris and His Wheel will be one of their choices because his story is so inspiring! Among the other 19 books on Rhode Islands list are Cece Bell's El Deafo and Stephanie Roth Sisson's Star Stuff.
  New York City Reads 365
This is a government-sponsored program that encourages everyone to read every day. I love what they say: “There is a wealth of research supporting daily reading. The more we read, the more knowledge we have, the more words we gain exposure to, the more our brain exercises, and the more we experience the joy of getting lost in a story. Reading purely for oneself, to encounter new worlds, to learn new information, to be inspired—this is the path to success in school as in life.”

Mr. Ferris and His Wheel is included in NYC Reads 365's 4th Grade List. And I'm very happy to see it there! It's a downloadable list. You can even download and print a bookmark.
